HSK (Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì) is a standardized test to measure a student’s proficiency in Chinese. HSK exams were first developed in 1984 at the Beijing Language and Culture University and was made an official test in 1992. Since then, over 120 countries have offered test centers and over 100 million tests have been taken in total. Tests consist of listening and reading sections, with higher levels containing a written section as well. Tests are scored by points, with the maximum total ranging from 200-300 points. Students need to score a 60% or above to pass.
